Downtown Hop Around
YOU'RE INVITED!
Friends of Downtown Cincinnati,

You are cordially invited to join hundreds of community leaders -- including Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory and an unprecedented contingent of at least seven former Cincinnati mayors -- to participate in the second edition of the Downtown HopAround on Saturday, September 30. The first HopAround was April 8, 2006, and as you'll see below, was a screaming success.

The grass-roots HopAround is the brainchild of five volunteers who love Downtown's nightspots and wanted to share the wealth.

Mayor Mark Mallory will again serve as grand marshal of the Sept. 30 HopAround. Seven former Cincinnati mayors will serve as "Hoppers Emeritus":
  • Charlie Luken (1984-91; 1999-2005)
  • Roxanne Qualls (1993-99)
  • David Mann (1980-82 and 1991)
  • Arn Bortz (1983-84)
  • Tom Brush (1982-83)
  • Tom Luken (1971-72) and
  • Eugene Ruehlmann (1967-71)
Former mayors Jerry Springer (1977-78) and Ken Blackwell (1979-80) are trying to adjust their schedules so they can attend.

In addition to this first-ever gathering of mayors, numbers of community leaders and Downtown advocates are banding together to fill downtown nightspots. We are asking you to do the same. You can serve as an Upstanding Ambassador and host friends and colleagues at your favorite Downtown nightspot. You can be an Honorary HopArounder and visit several favorite spots. Or you can simply join us and come Downtown and be part of a tremendous party.

For the nightspots, the April 8 HopAround was a howling success, with several of them reporting their busiest Saturday ever with as much as a 100 percent increase in business. Same goes for the Hoppers, such as Joyce Miller, who said "it was such a joy to see the streets filled with people the entire night."

Here's something else you can do:
  • Visit DowntownHopAround.com for up-to-date info.
  • Forward this to your distribution list and line up a crowd.
  • Check the attached link to the Cincinnati Enquirer's story on the HopAround:
Mayors coming; you're welcome, too by Jim Knippenberg
  • And above all, be there September 30. We promise to show you a good time.
So mark your calendars. Save up your tipping dollars. Tip off your friends. Be a part of positive change for Downtown Cincinnati. Stand up for Downtown and help us show Downtown the good time it deserves.

Sincerely,
The Organizing Team for the Downtown HopAround:
Mary Armor
